{"id":7604,"date":"2020-02-25T09:52:38","date_gmt":"2020-02-25T09:52:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/kitazato-ivf.com\/?p=7604"},"modified":"2022-02-28T16:48:58","modified_gmt":"2022-02-28T16:48:58","slug":"embryo-quality-affects-babies-birthweight-fet-cycles","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kitazato-ivf.com\/es\/embryo-quality-affects-babies-birthweight-fet-cycles\/","title":{"rendered":"Embryo quality affects babies\u2019 birthweight in FET cycles"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-7624\" title=\"early stage embryo\" src=\"http:\/\/kitazato-ivf.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Una-morula-shutterstock-low-rec-1024x742.jpg\" alt=\"Early stage embryo\" width=\"700\" height=\"507\"><\/p>\n<h2>Recent findings provide new insight into the relationship between embryo quality and neonatal outcomes by showing that poor-quality blastocyst transfer in associated with a decrease in singleton birthweight.<\/h2>\n<p>A<strong> study published by Zhang et al. in Human Reproduction Journal<\/strong>, involved singleton live births born to 1.207 women undergoing frozen-thawed single blastocyst transfers and has shown that the transfer of a poor-quality blastocyst is associated with lower mean birthweight when compared with the transfer of an excellent-quality blastocyst during FET cycles.<\/p>\n<p>Even though the reason why poor embryo quality leads to a lower birthweight remains unknown, there are <strong>some theories<\/strong> which may play a role:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Developmentally compromised embryos have been reported to be metabolically more active<\/strong> in terms of amino acid turnover, producing high levels of reactive oxygen species and ATP compared with competent embryos.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Global methylation levels of high-quality blastocysts are similar, whereas of low-quality blastocysts are variable and differ from those of high-quality ones<\/strong>. Changes in the epigenetic processes during implantation could have an impact on foetal growth patterns.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>The human endometrium serving as a biosensor by inhibiting secretion of growth factors and cytokines after detecting low-quality embryos<\/strong>.
